She is known for being sweet, annoying, talkative, trustworthy, a good friend, and a great assistant who relates a lot to a Neko (cat) due to her other famous "Nyaaa" which is when you know she's up to no good. Either that or smashing her way through demons using her Oar and/or baseball bat. Her most used talent, besides riding her Oar, is healing. Throughout the series, Botan assists Yusuke and the others of the tantei with their missions, helping a great deal. When first introduced, Yusuke Urameshi had realized his unfortunate death and she appears reciting her famous line, "Bingo Bingo Bingo, you win the prize!" She is Koenma's most trustworthy guide to the spirit world. As people join Yusuke's crew, Botan helps them out as well ( Kuwabara also has a crush on her), and she even helps to protect Keiko during the Saint Beast's assault on the Living World. In addition to her insider's insight, she relays news from Koenma and provides various tools for Yusuke and his crew to use, such as the psychic spyglass (lets Yusuke see through objects) and the communicator. While normally invisible as the Grim Reaper, as Yusuke assistant she becomes as real as you or me (she just doesn't change her appearance like Koenma), though she soon changes clothes to match the times.
Once Yusuke returns to life and becomes a Spirit Detective, Botan becomes his assistant. In any event, Botan helps Yusuke through his ordeal to regain his life. Instead of a robed skeleton with a scythe he encounters a young lady in a kimono riding an oar like a witch rides a broom (it's all based on Japanese tradition, even the oar: it symbolizes the boats that carry the departed souls away).
Trust me, even Yusuke was surprised that the "Grim Reaper" wasn't what he expected. She's the conveyor of the recently departed (such as Yusuke at the beginning of the series) to the Spirit World. Please note that Botan is only called the Grim Reaper because, well, it fits her job description.
